Frequently Asked Questions about US Visa

1. What is B1/B2 visa?

B-1/B-2 visa is a nonimmigrant visa to enter the United States for a combination of purposes, B-1 visa for business and B-2 visa for tourism.

2. Can I apply for a US visa from the UAE if I am not a resident?

Yes, you can apply for a US B1/B2 visa from the UAE even if you are not a resident, as long as you can legally stay in the country during your application process. Non-residents, such as tourists or business visitors in the UAE, can schedule a US visa appointment in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, submit required documents, and attend the interview at the US Embassy or Consulate. However, approval may depend on your ties to your home country and your ability to demonstrate intent to return.

3. What is the process for getting a US visa in UAE?

1. Complete the DS-160 online visa application. 2. Pay the non-refundable visa application fee. 3. Schedule your interview at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi or US Consulate in Dubai. 4. Gather all required documents. 5. Attend your visa interview and provide fingerprints. 6. Wait for visa processing and passport return.

4. How much is the US B1/B2 visa fee from UAE?

The fee for the B-1/B-2 visa is $185.

5. My US visitor visa (B-1/B-2) expires after my intended date of arrival in the United States. Do I need a new visa before departure?

- You can enter the US up to the last date of validity printed on your visa. The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at entry decides how long you may stay. Your visa may expire while you are in the US, just do not overstay the period granted by CBP.

6. My US visa will expire in the next 6 months. Can I apply for a new visa in advance?

You do not need to wait until your current visa expires. You can apply for a new visa at any time, even if your current visa is still valid.

7. What documents are required for a US B-1/B-2 visa from Dubai?

Before attending your US B1/B2 visa interview in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, you must gather the following required documents: - Valid passport – Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the United States. - Nonimmigrant Visa Application (Form DS-160) – Confirmation page of your completed online application. - Application fee payment receipt – If payment is required before your interview, bring proof of payment. - Photo – Upload your photo while completing the online DS-160 form. If the upload fails, bring one printed photo that meets the US visa photograph requirements. Additional documents may be required, depending on your situation, such as: - Proof of the purpose of your trip - Evidence of your intent to return to your home country after visiting the US - Proof of your financial ability to cover all trip expenses

8. Is there a difference between applying for a US tourist visa and a business visa from UAE?

Yes. Both are applied for in the same way, but they serve different purposes: B-1 (Business Visa) is for: - Consulting with business associates - Attending scientific, educational, professional, or business conventions/conferences - Settling an estate - Negotiating a contract B-2 (Tourist Visa) is for: - Tourism or vacation - Visiting friends or relatives - Medical treatment - Attending social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organisations - Amateur participation in cultural or sports events (unpaid) - Short recreational courses (non-credit, e.g., cooking class) Many travelers apply for a B1/B2 combined visa to allow both purposes under one visa.

9. What is the validity period of a US B-1/B-2 visa?

The validity of a US B-1/B-2 visa is determined by your passport’s country of issuance. For many nationalities, the visa can be valid for up to 10 years with multiple entries. This means you can visit the United States several times within that period, usually for stays of up to 6 months per trip. If you hold a passport from another country while applying in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, your visa validity will follow the US visa reciprocity agreement for your nationality, which may be shorter.

10. What should I do if my US visa application from UAE is refused?

You may reapply in the future. Submit a new visa application and pay the visa fee again (except for 221(g) refusals). If refused under section 214(b) of the INA, provide evidence of significant changes in circumstances since your last application (e.g., stronger ties to your home country, financial changes, new travel purpose).

11. Is my US visa still valid if my passport has expired?

Yes, a valid U.S. visa in an expired passport is still valid. Unless canceled or revoked, a visa remains valid until its expiration date. You may use your valid visa in your expired passport along with a new valid passport for travel to the United States.
